Doesn’t look like the typical black forest cake? Great, because you may have not tried the best yet. This is our signature cake, a modernized black forest cake, that we bet you won’t find it anywhere else. The bottom and center of the cake are layered with chocolate sponge with black cherries, filled with a layer of 66% cocoa Belgian chocolate mousse, and the top is layered with vanilla mousse blended with lots of finely chopped maraschino red cherries for an enhanced biting texture. We use vanilla mousse and chocolate mousse to replace the tradition-heavy whipped cream to make this cake lighter, richer in taste and texture, and it’s an invention that we are proud of.

An exotic and sumptuous chocolate cake that is originated from Germany, added with layers of whipped cream, cherries filling, topped with chocolate shavings and maraschino cherries. It’s an extremely luscious cake that will make you put calories aside for a moment and simply indulge in the passion of eating the cake. Sounds tempting, doesn’t it? But have you ever wonder how Black Forest cake got its name and who actually invented this delicacy?
Traditionally, kirsch, which is a clear liquor distilled from cherries is added to the Black Forest cake, and it was believed that the cake is named after this specialty liquor (Schwarzwälder Kirsch) of the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) mountain range in southwestern Germany. Black forest region is famous for its cherry trees, which inspired the idea of Black Forest cake. Pastry Chef Josef Keller claims to have invented the recipe in 1915; however, it is a known fact that the recipe actually did not appear in print until 1930. Therefore, there is a suggestion that Black Forest cake may have been made as far back as the 16th century.
Today, the improved version of Black Forest cake tends to omit the kirsch and replace it with fruit syrup made from cherries or berries so that the cake is a little more light and refreshing. A typical Black Forest cake contains at least three to four layers of chocolate sponge cake with whipped cream and cherries in between. It is also frosted with whipped cream and further decorated with chocolate shavings and maraschino cherries on top. The unique cherry pit flavour gives the cake a special kick and an extra taste that will linger in your mouth longer.

It’s well made, and they pulled it off with cream on top with cherry bits – something new. But for what it is, the price is pretty steep.

The cake is nice. Not too sweet and very special not the normal black forest. But I won’t say it is extremely good to match the price tag. It is a bit too pricey in my opinion as together with delivery fee it came up to RM114. Overall still ok but won’t be buying frequently…
